My Creative Side

This feels like a good place to tell you about who I am and how I got here.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a ballerina more than anything. I started taking classes when I was 5 and took my last class at 19, when I accepted the fact that I just wasn't good enough to be a professional (and, if one of my teachers was to be believed, I wasn't bitchy enough…I'm good with that!)

All through my life, I've been surrounded by art. My parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and now my daughter are extremely talented sculptors, painters, mixed media artists. I didn't get that gene. I figured I got the performing arts/speaking form of art.

I decided I wanted to try my hand at creating something different. I tiptoed into quilting because I already knew how to sew. I learned so much (or is it sew much?). Then I took a pottery class. I've always wanted to learn to throw pottery, so now I'm doing it…and loving it!

Recently, I took a huge leap to try my hand at sculpting. Is it possible to love it and be intimidated by it at the same time? So, maybe I did get that gene after all!

My Logical Side

Once I moved on from my dream of being a dancer, I decided that I needed some skills. So, I went to secretarial school at the now-defunct Katharine Gibbs School. At the time, it was considered the Harvard of secretarial schools. Not only was I good at it, I really liked it!

Through the years, I've been an administrative assistant in many industries…insurance, hospitality, government contractor/law, financial, real estate to name a few. It gave me insights into ways that companies operate and I was able to see what was working and what was not.

Fast forward to 2015 when I became a traveling administrative assistant to solopreneurs in the Asheville, NC area. Small business owners that need assistance but don't need someone full-time or even every day.

In 2018, Moxie Administrative Services was formed, and I'm still running it as a resource for my clients, if they need it.

In 2020, we became virtual (thank you, COVID), and we were able to expand nationwide and work anywhere.

Then came the day a client came to me with a problem but no idea how to solve it. She was taking too long to onboard her clients, and it was keeping her from growing her business. We took a look at what she was doing, what she hoped to accomplish, and what platforms she was using. We brainstormed solutions and implementation strategies. By the time we were done, her onboarding time had been reduced to 15 minutes!

Finding solutions.

Now, I love to help the creative business owner (the spaghetti flingers, if you will) figure out where they want to go and sort through the spaghetti to find not only the best way to get a thing done, but the best way that works for THEM!
